Laser Hair RemovalWhat You Want to Know
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser Hair Removal is based on the exact same principle that makes a black car hot after sitting in the sun. The pigment in your hair absorbs the light and turns that energy into heat, destroying the root of the hair and preventing it from growing back.
What kind of results will I see? And how soon?
During first 10-14 days after each treatment you’ll experience what appears to be 1/8″ to 1/4″ of new hair growth. Don’t fret, this is only your body shedding the dead hairs that we treated with the laser.
Once these fall out, you’ll have anywhere from 2-4 weeks of little-to-no hair growth. How great is that? You’ll notice the hairs that gradually start growing back are often finer and sometimes lighter. Around the 6-8 week mark, enough hair will be growing that it’ll be time to come in for your next visit.
Remember, as tempting as it might be, don’t tweeze or wax those bothersome hairs, we need them growing so we can stop them in their tracks. It is important to understand that we will never be able to eliminate 100% of the hair. We aim for an 85% -95% reduction of hair growth after a series of six treatments.
Do you have a warranty or guarantee?
If you undergo six treatments of any single area*, purchased as a package OR individually, we will provide our Total Satisfaction Warranty package, a full year of complimentary touch up treatments. We understand that everyone responds differently to the treatment and want to do what it takes to produce the best results possible for you.
However, as with almost any treatment, there will be people who simply do not respond. Because of that, we can not guarantee that laser hair removal will work for you. If you purchase a package and do not respond to the first treatment or two (see “What kind of results will I see? And how soon?”) we will happily refund the remaining sessions of your package.
*Treatments must be undergone in the prescribed time frame.
Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?
-
Is your hair darker than your skin, but not blonde, red, or grey?
Do you shave regularly?
Do you want to be free from the routine?
If you answered yes to all of these, you are most likely a candidate for laser hair removal at Waterstone. Our laser can safely and effectively treat people with a wide variety of complexions, from milky white to “a nice tan” to caramel, and even darker skin tones.
Still not sure? Come in for a Free Consultation and we’ll treat one of your underarms so you can see the results for yourself without paying a dime.
Why does it take several treatments to remove hair?
All of our hair grows in phases, sometimes growing, sometimes resting. While only the actively growing hairs will be permanently disabled, all of the hair will fall out in the two weeks following your treatment. Each treatment will effectively reduce the hair growth by 15-20%.
Once the next “group” of hair starts cycling back into the growth phase, it’s time to come in for your next treatment, typically 6-8 weeks from your last visit. It is important to understand that we will never realistically be able to get rid of 100% of the hair. We aim for an 85%-95% reduction of hair growth after six treatments.
At Waterstone, we understand that everyone is different and some people may need more treatments. If you purchase a laser hair removal package or undergo six treatments in a single area within the prescribed time, we will provide our Total Satisfaction warranty, one year of complimentary maintenance treatments. You can come in for additional sessions at no cost for a full year after your sixth treatment!
How often do I need to receive treatments?
Treatments are spaced 6-8 weeks apart, depending on the area. This gives a new population of target hairs time to cycle into their growth phase, thus allowing us to eliminate them permanently. If there is no hair growing, there is nothing to zap with the laser.
What does laser hair removal feel like?
In our experience, it feels like very quick, tiny, pin pricks. Each laser pulse lasts just a fraction of a second, so any discomfort you may experience subsides very quickly. Our laser has a patented contact cooling pad which protects the skin while making these treatments much more comfortable.
I am pregnant. Can I receive laser hair removal treatments?
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until the stork drops off that little bundle of joy. But, if you’re interested in laser hair removal and you’re currently pregnant, be sure to let us know in the Free Consultation form. Once your baby is born, we’ll give you the first treatment* as a congratulations gift!
*Underarm, Bikini, or Lip/Chin combo, or value equivalent toward other area. Expecting mother must notify Waterstone of interest in LHR while pregnant via the Free Consultation form to receive free session.
What type of laser do you use?
We use the Asclepion Mediostar Pro. This is a Diode laser that operates at 810nm, which, in English, means that it can effectively reduce hair growth while being safe for nearly all skin tones.
How do I prepare for a treatment?
If you tweeze or wax, STOP!!! Completely removing the hair, root and all, eliminates the target for the laser. We recommend no tweezing, waxing or plucking for 4 weeks prior to your treatment. We know those pesky hairs can be embarrassing, so shaving is OK, just no tweezing!
For your first appointment only, we ask that you leave 1 weeks worth of growth so we can document your baseline hair growth. After that, you can shave the area to be treated from 0-3 days before your appointment.
If you’ve got especially sensitive skin or get razor burn easily, we’d recommend shaving 2-3 days before your appointment for a more comfortable experience.
If you are using a Retinoid product such as Tretinoin or Retin-A, you need to discontinue use in the area to be treated 4 weeks prior to your appointment. This is generally only an issue for lip/chin or cheek treatments.
What areas can be treated?
Pretty much any area that grows hair can be treated by our laser. Two of the most popular areas that respond extremely well are the underarms and bikini area. Other common areas that we get great results with are the lower legs, lip and chin, and the chest, back, and shoulders for men.
Are there any side effects
Additionally, our MedioStar laser has a patented contact cooling device that protects your skin from any heating that may occur from the laser absorption.
Potential, but rare side effects include hyper-pigmentation(darkening of the treated area), hypo-pigmentation(lightening of the treated area) and burning.
Other short term side effects such as redness, slight swelling, and a stinging or sunburned feel are not uncommon and typically subside within 12-24 hours. Our clients’ feel little-to-no discomfort and display minimal redness by the time they leave Waterstone.
While people with darker skin are at greater risk of adverse reactions, It should be noted that our laser is particularly safe and effective for darker complexions.
Should I take any special precautions after my laser treatment?
How long does it take?
Do I have to let my hair grow out before my appointment or do I shave?
You can shave all you want but, it’s crucial that you do not wax, tweeze or pluck for 4 weeks prior to your appointment. You must have hair growing for laser hair removal to be effective.
